Recently I my friend asked to service my car at his workshop. And I decided to give it a try~! I wanted to know why it is different as compared to my normal mechanic.
First and foremost, it was different in the sense that my old mechanic had space inside the shop to repair the car, while my friend on the other hand had to service and fix the car under the open air. This kinda caught me by surprise. But it looks like it was a very efficient way to do his work (without wasting much electricity).
Gotta get under the carriage to let the engine oil flow out. My friend and his brother was pretty fast in doing the work on my car. Was quite entranced by how synchronized they were when they were servicing my car. On top of servicing my car, he checked my car for any other problems that it may have.
My friend also pumped my car tyres with air. And he commented that my tyres are gone case. Needs to be changed soon. He even showed me where the tyres are balding. To top that off, my friend also pumped air into the spare tyre in the boot of my car~! This was never done by my previous mechanic. I guess, my friend is more thorough in his work.
My friend’s shop is more of a store to keep stock of all the things he needs to fix the cars. He is a distributor of the products, so it is not a surprise that he holds a whole lot of things, e.g. tyres, batteries, engine oils, and a whole lot more. Owh, by the way, he also service and fix motorcycles.
I was again surprised as to him asking what kind of engine I had previously used in my car engine. And he mentioned that the particular engine oil that I had previously used for my car is not very suitable for my car as it is not as it was meant to be used on smaller cars like Kancil. So he says, my car should be using better engine oil. Winston engine oil~!
Now here is my friend, Koh Chon Wai. He is a car enthusiast, and very informative about cars. He talked to me about cars and tyres and servicing the cars. Of course this gave me a whole new insight about cars and how to take care of my car and how I can stay safe.
Like how when replacing the tyres on the cars, it is best to get tyres that are 6 months to 1 year old as they would not be as soft as the brand new tyres. Brand new tyres tends to wear out faster than the slightly older tyres. And the life period of tyres can go as far as 10 years, but it is best to change after 6 years. My car on the other hand has changed tyres like 2 to 3 times over the past 8 years or so.
Another tip that he shared with me was that do not travel long distance straight after servicing the car. Drive it for a week before going for long distance journey, to weed out any problems if any.
STM Motor, managed by my friend Koh Chon Wai. Owh, he also can give free advice on car problems and allow you to head back to your own mechanic to have your own mechanic fixed it. That was something I was surprised to hear about. But what he really wants to be is just a car consultant, and give tips and advice regarding cars.
Owh, if you want to give him a visit, you can find him at OUG or from the map below. Hope that helps.
If you still not sure, then you can give him a call at 0163626355.
