Glitterati Plus & Churp Churp Kite Flying (In Detail)

This post is slightly late, but on the past Saturday morning, I attended the Glitterati Plus whereby Nuffnang Co-Founder Timothy Tiah talk a lil bit about the new club that is founded.  After he gave a short presentation about it, he passed it over to the President of the Glitterati Plus club.

Yes, the Glitterati Plus status is a club for bloggers by bloggers (with the support and sponsorship from Nuffnang and its clients).  The President, Tehtarikmemoirsgave a very confident talk about the Glitterati Plus club and how much more things to gain from it, but only if you meet the criteria of eligibility of becoming a Glitterati Plus member.

Of course Timothy Tiah mentioned that it is not better than the Glitterati status as both statuses are not equal and it the difference between the both that it suits the different types of bloggers there are in the Nuffnang community.  Of course I have no qualms over it, and I myself applied for the new status, as the others did.  After the session ended there was quite a fair bit of refreshments for the Nuffnang members who attended the meeting.  There people were mingling around and I felt a little lost as I knew no one and neither did I read any of their blogs except for a few Nuffies whom I always keep in touch with on twitter.

Of course there was a second event that would be happening later on in the afternoon and in between there was time for lunch and a tour of the Taylors University Lakeside campus.  Of course I skipped lunch during the lunch break as I was still stuffed from the refreshments that were provided.

After which I went to walk around and talked a bit with another blogger named Simon Har.  Unfortunately, on several occasions I called him Sunny Har (because I have a friend named Sunny Har whom I have been in contact a lot recently).  And he is really young for that matter, making me feel so damn old~!  Damn it.  Of course after a short self tour of the campus we headed back to the lecture theater where we met the Taylor students / staff who were suppose to bring us on a tour of the campus.

Before the rest returned from the lunch break I got the chance to talk to the Taylorians and find out more about the campus.  It is shocking to find out that the Taylors University Lakeside campus is really small township on its own with more developments on the way.  Seriously as it is, it was pretty self sufficient with the various F&B outlets from Starbucks, to Wong Kok, to Baskin Robbins, to other local and foreign food outlets.  I was also informed that all the shop lots has been taken up and the shop owners have yet to move in.  I even saw a Backofen being renovated over there.  Of course there is a food court on the premise but unfortunately it was close because it only opens on weekdays.  There is also fine dining restaurants as well as a hotel managed by students.  How insanely cool is that~!  A student managed hotel wei~!  Somemore it is a 80 rooms hotel, opening real soon~!

This place is insanely cool.  On top of them I was informed that there is a pool and I questioned them whether is it an infinity pool as they pointed out the pool from the view of the lecture theater and they confirmed that it is an infinity pool concept.  I was like super damned~!!!  And they say it is attached to a gym, but the gym owner is still not settled yet as they are still securing who would be the the gym owner, and from what I had heard, it could be from the big names in the market.  Too bad, Kenny Sia is not able to bank in on this place as his second branch (or maybe he could).

Not long after, the rest came back and we went for a tour of the academic campus and not the commercial area.  In my opinion, the campus itself was built using a minimalist approach while giving it a sense of modern taste with the funky chairs and the funky looking colours.  We were able to see the engineering department where it doesn’t really hit me as I am not an engineering person.

Followed by a look at the bio sciences department where we saw a skeleton and possibly something more eerie (I shall not go into details about this).  And we then moved on to the communications department.  This is where everyone who was on the tour was awed by the spectacle of the number of Mac computers (as well as the size of the screens of the Mac) in the lab.  Not only that, the screen of those Mac were really huge~!  There were a few labs of Mac computers for the purpose of video editing as well as other graphic involving aspects.

We then slowly made our way to the library where a room located next to the library caught my attention.  A 24/7 study room, where the guide told us was where students can eat, study, discuss, go online and even sleep.  Not only that, the library is one super cool and trendy place with all the different types of funky chairs laying around, I was amazed that people were not falling asleep on those funny looking chairs.

Connected to the library were a few open computer labs.  There was even a Mac computer lab as well as a Windows PC lab for printing and photocopy purposes.  Apparently the tag that they use can be used for printing and photocopying purposes.  Which is rather cool.  It really made wanted to go back to studying once more, BUT only in this lovely campus.

We were then lead towards the multi purpose hall which to me seems very nice except for the flooring where it looks pretty worn out (maybe due to the constant wear and tear).  We had a group photo of the Nuffnang members who were still around for the tour.  After the the multi purpose hall, we were brought to a few of the fine dining restaurants on the campus before the tour ended.

After the tour I followed Xin Xian aka fresh026 to meet with the others who would be attending the next even which would be the Churp Churp kite flying.  Of course I asked the person in charged of Churp Churp, Jacqueline Rowena for a kite which she brought for quite a number of us.  We tried to fly the kite but to no avail as the winds were not strong enough (as it was being blocked by the buildings surrounding us), and also the very hot weather that we tried to fly our kites in.

Of course I tried for awhile before laying my kite down to rest under the shade of the building, and even then it still felt hot.  Of course there were a few people who were able to get their kites up flying real high up.  My salute to them for being able to do so.

By about 5 plus closing to 6, we had a group photo before dispersing to head off.  Of course I head right back home to get some work done which has been delayed.
